Areas of interest within Population Health: Global environmental health, infectious disease, zoonotics, spatial epidemiology

Brief Interest Statement: I have a Master of Public Health from Emory SPH, and a BA in Biology from Brandeis University. I worked on the Water Team at CARE while living in Atlanta, and I completed my practicum experience with CARE in Mozambique where I conducted a Livelihood Vulnerability Assessment to climate change in two districts. / / I love being outdoors running, playing soccer, backpacking, gardening, etc. I enjoy photography and experimenting with new recipes. I also love scavenging flea markets for treasure and diving into new craft projects when I can take a break from research!

What experiences in your life led you to study population/public health? In college I realized that in addition to my general interest in health, I also had a love for ecology, global health issues, the non-biomedical determinants of health, and the complex interaction among these factors that determine population health. Studying public health has allowed me to learn about many different disciplines during graduate school. I hope that my research will provide a platform for merging some of the best ideas from each school of thought to figure out a complex population health question.

Why did you choose UW-Madison for your degree? I wanted to work at the Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment, or SAGE (http://www.sage.wisc.edu/), a research group on campus that looks at various global environmental issues and their impact on human health.
