Explaining Racial Disparities in Adjuvant Chemotherapy for Colon Cancer

The major goal of this pilot project is to characterize key physician characteristics that may partially explain racial disparities in the use of standard adjuvant chemotherapy for Stage II and Stage III colon cancer patients.

Factors Influencing the Completion and Content of Advance Directives

The major goal of this pilot project to obtain sample sizes and compare the sociodemographic and health characteristics of patients who document advance directives in the Aurora database to patients who do not document advance directives.

Access to Care and Health Outcomes in the Near Elderly 

Project Leader: Maureen Smith (09/02-06/07)

This project is part of the Wisconsin Longitudinal Study P01 program of projects [P01 Principal InvestigatorI: Robert M. Hauser, Ph.D.].  We will examine access to care, use of services, and health outcomes in the near elderly, including disparities in access for women and persons in poverty or poor health.

Older Adults and Specialty Care Use in Managed Care    

Principal Investigator: Maureen Smith (9/01-6/04)  

This project will examine the contribution of both managed care incentives and hospital characteristics to explaining variation in specialty care use, outcomes, and costs for older patients hospitalized with acute stroke.
