The Department of Population Health Sciences is nationally recognized
for research excellence in statistical methods, health services
research, health economics, disease prevention, epidemiology and
integrative biology. It offers both MS and PhD degrees in Population
Health Sciences and serves as the departmental home of the University's
MPH program. Many departmental faculty members have affiliations and/or
collaborative relationships with other policy-oriented organizations on
campus, including the University of Wisconsin Population Health
Institute (which is administratively housed within the Department), the
Institute for Research on Poverty, the Center of Sustainability and the
Global Environment, as well as other related academic departments,
including the Departments of Economics, Political Science and Sociology.
UW-Madison's rich tradition of close relationships with the State of
Wisconsin and local communities offers the appointee significant
opportunities for research collaborations with high-level decision
makers in the public and private sectors directly addressing the health
of populations. The new Wisconsin Partnership Fund for a Healthy Future
program and the Survey of the Health of Wisconsin (SHOW) provide the
opportunity for applied research funding for such activity across the
State.
