Cynthia Haq is Professor of
Family Medicine and Population Health Sciences at the UW Medical School of
Medicine and Public Health. She has focused her career on primary health
care, trained village health workers in Uganda, established family medicine
training in Pakistan, served as a consultant to the World Health
Organization, and worked to improve medical education in the US, and many
nations. Dr. Haq maintains an active family medicine practice in rural
Belleville, Wisconsin.
“Despite improvements in health care, enormous problems and striking
inequities in health status persist within the US and abroad. The health of
the people of Wisconsin is strongly affected by global trends such as
immigration, travel, trade and shifting disease patterns. Health
professionals and students can be enriched through global health
collaborations; they can contribute to promoting health and alleviating
suffering in areas of need, learn the fundamentals of public health, and
apply these lessons to improve health care services in Wisconsin and
beyond. A diverse, dedicated group of UW faculty, staff, residents and
students are contributing to our evolving programs to address global health
problems. We look forward to new collaborations and further developments in
the years ahead.” |
