Craig Gjerde, PhD, is Director of Faculty Development in the UW School of
Medicine and Public Health. He is Professor of Family Medicine and also has
an appointment in the Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis program in
the College of Education. His PhD is in educational psychology with a
specialization in measurement and evaluation. He has published articles on
medical education and international field work.
Dr. Gjerde directs the Medical Education Development And Leadership faculty
development programs that have over 100 graduates statewide. This year's
program focuses on Teaching Skills for medical education. [See MEDAL below.]
He is co-director of the Primary Care Faculty Development Program that has
trained over 120 primary care physicians to be better teachers and care
providers through its fellowship and has sponsored many workshops on
teaching. [See PCFDP.]
He has been a member of the editorial board for Family Medicine and a member
of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine program committee. He is the
faculty development coordinator for the national
FMDRL.org project to share
teaching resources.
Craig was a Peace Corps volunteer in Malawi and maintains a strong interest
in international affairs and travel. He has taught in Malawi, Turkey, South
Africa, and China.
