Dennis Fryback completed a BA degree in Psychology and Mathematics at UCLA (1969), then received an MA (Mathematics, 1973) and PhD (Mathematical Psychology, 1974) from the University of Michigan, where he trained in human decision making and decision analysis. He joined the staff at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1974 and since 1984 has been a Professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences and the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering.

Research Interests:

Prof. Fryback's research and teaching interests have included medical technology assessment, health care cost-effectiveness analysis, measurement of population-level health status and health-related quality of life assessment, using simulation modeling to understand cancer epidemiology, and use of Bayesian statistical analysis in these areas and in pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research.  His current research seeks to understand the scaling properties of important indexes of health-related quality-of-life.  This project has conducted a major national survey of non-institutionalized US adults aged 35-89 and is analyzing these data to understand disparities in health associated with age, gender, race, socioeconomic status and other important variables as well as conducting analyses aimed at better understanding methodological properties of the measures.  These data are being prepared for public release in summer of 2008.
