Donn D'Alessio is a Associate Professor of Population Health Sciences and Medicine. He received his M.D. from Cornell University. Dr. D'Alessio's research interest for the past fifteen years has been the role (if any) of Enterovirus infections, particularly the group B Cocksackie viruses in the etiology and pathogenesis of myopericarditis (and congestive cardiomyopathy) and insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (type 1). The work on type 1 diabetes has led to the establishment of the Wisconsin Type 1 Diabetes Registry to study the early natural history of this disease. His research is particularly concerned with the relationship of blood glucose control to microvascular complications.
