Paul E. Peppard, PhD
Senior Epidemiologist
Paul Peppard is a Senior Epidemiologist with the Population Health Institute, University of Wisconsin Medical School, and an
Associate Scientist with the Department of Population Health Sciences,
University of Wisconsin-Madison. He holds MS degrees in preventive medicine
and statistics, and a PhD degree in epidemiology from the University of
Wisconsin-Madison.
As an epidemiologist with the Institute, Paul conducts public health and health policy research and
analyses and provides consulting regarding population health research and
statistical methodology to the Institute and its constituency. At the
Institute, Paul's specific areas of research interest include population
health report-carding, summary measures of population health, and health
disparities.
As a scientist with the Department of Population Health Sciences, Paul
conducts epidemiologic research into the causes and consequences of sleep
disorders, particularly sleep apnea. Specific areas of interest include
behavioral (physical inactivity, obesity), metabolic and genetic predictors
of sleep apnea and cardiovascular outcomes of sleep apnea.
Additionally, Paul has also conducted research and consulted as an
environmental epidemiologist, specifically in the areas of childhood lead
poisoning and indoor air quality. Paul also teaches a section of the
Department of Population Health Sciences' second semester graduate
epidemiology methods course (topic: data validity and measurement error) as
well as advises and mentors Population Health students.
